Life is comical….as I’m sweating struggling to make the tiny twin bed in our not walk around bedspace. A job that I often didn’t enjoy just for the difficulty of trying to wedge the too large bedsheet on the bed when there’s just no room for any of it. I think that this may be the last time I have to sweat and struggle with this sheet. I feel sad. Does the end of an adventure make the fruit sweeter?
We have our last few glances of Bahia de Concepcion and into Mulege. I’m going to miss these turquoise waters. This area somehow felt like the beginning of Baja.

Mulege was a stop over for coffee, burritos, date bread(a delicious Mexican treat)

We met up with Rocky and Steph in San Ignacio. We camped for several days at campground close to the square. We celebrated Steph’s birthday, we hiked to get a good view of San Ignacio., did some restocking.

The heat is becoming next level hot. We spend our afternoon hiding out from the heat. Paul was experiencing some pretty intense back pain, I think as a result of all the driving and lack of movement. Rocky and Steph moved on and we spend another 2 days trying to release Paul’s back. We were able to get it to relax well enough to drive on. Next up Guerrero Negro. I’m not exactly sure how but we are all feeling like we have picked up a parasite, bacteria or virus somewhere… in the form of digestive upset. Instead of staying at a campground in the wind and heat we opted for a hotel room for a night. Our first Mexican hotel stay. $1200 pesos got us a pretty decent double queen room with a good shower.

Baja Sur is where the magic is. Most people cruise through the North. At this point Paul is feeling better, Olive is fine but my digestion is tender. We pull into La Poma on a Saturday and this paid beach camping is full of locals. We soon find out it is Benito Juarez day (a past Mexican president and first Indigenous president) many locals are spending their weekend with family enjoying the beach. We rest, swim and explore the beach for 4 days.

I’m not sure if it’s because our time in Mexico is ending or because we aren’t feeling 100% but I’m feeling ready to exit Mexico. I can’t believe I’m saying it. 3 months in Mexico is a long time. We camped one night in San Felipe, did some final souvenir shopping and the plan was to head just a bit further north to a campground. Temps now are reaching low 40’s!! When we arrive at our campground the air is so hot it burns our eyes and is hard to breathe. We make a quick decision to get another hotel just outside of San Luis…where we will cross into the US the next day. $900 pesos, this hotel was nothing special. It had comfy beds, AC and a swimming pool.

We crossed into Yuma this time. It was busier than Mexicali. The border towns have a different feel. I wouldn’t want to street sleep here. We crossed in 1.5 hours with a quick inspection of our truck and camper. The border security was very friendly and we had no issues crossing over. We are welcomed into Yuma with record high temps…106F!! We have a few weeks left to make our way up to Canada. We aren’t sure of our route…the weather will determine where we go. The extreme heat makes it hard to camp. Our fridge doesn’t cool effectively. Sleeping at night is a challenge when it doesn’t cool down. But we want to enjoy the trip up and see a few things along the way. We also want to appreciate the warm because we know the further North we go the cooler it will get.
